God’s Word Is Life Giving And Trustworthy

Have you ever had someone tell you, “you have my word”? Most of us who have lived some measure of years know that a person’s word is only as good as their integrity and power to keep it. In Psalm 19:7–13 and 2 Timothy 3:14–15, we are told that God’s word is perfect and trustworthy, more precious than gold and it leads to salvation through faith in Christ. I pray that you would hold fast to God’s word and cherish it for the preservation and edification of your life. Amen

The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous. (Psalm 19:7-9)

The psalmist recited multiple synonyms for God’s law (Torah). Among them are statutes, precepts, commands, decrees. In addition to the use of these synonyms for God’s law, the psalmist embraced God’s law because of its benefits…it refreshes, it’s trustworthy, it gives wisdom, it gives joy, gives light (illumination), it endures and it is righteous. Only good things come from God’s word!

They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression. (Psalm 19:10-13)

How good is God’s word? The psalmist attempts to describe its goodness and value. it as more precious than gold, sweeter than honey, of great reward, and keeping them can warn us and turn us away from sin, error and transgression that separates us relationship with God.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim. 3:14-15)

As the apostle Paul saw the end of his life drawing near, he provided important reminders to Timothy for faithfulness to the ministry. He exhorted Timothy to continue with what he had been taught from the scriptures by his mother and grandmother. Paul’s basis for this exhortation is because God’s word is wisdom and leads us into salvation through faith in Christ.

The apostle Paul was clear in his exhoration of Timothy, his son in the ministry, saying “ All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” We find instruction, correction, warning, wisdom and so much more in God’s word. God’s word can be fully trusted as the guide to daily living as well as the pathway to salvation and everlasting life. It is our love letter from God, His revelation of who He is and the eternal understanding of how He wants us to be in relationship with Him. If you are not reading, studying and meditating on the word of God, you can’t possibly know Him, what He wants for you or the consequences of rebelling against authority. But if you do continually spend time with God through His word… you will find it life giving and trustworthy beyond measure!

Blessings, Rev. Glenn
