They Can’t Block Your Blessing

In his song Victory belongs to Jesus, Todd Delaney asks “who can stand against the Lord?”. His answer…no one can, no one will! In Genesis 26:24–33, God appeared to him and affirmed His protection of Isaac, His blessing of Isaac and His covenant promise to Abraham to multiply his descendants. Immediately, everything that had been going against Isaac was turned around. The harassment from neighbors… stopped. The threat of Abimelek as an enemy… gone And the water necessary to sustain all life… found. I pray that you will receive the blessings that God has for you, in spite of anyone or anything that might be trying to keep you from them. Amen.

That night the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the LORD. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well. (Genesis 26:24-25)

Isaac had been looking for a place where he and his household could live peacefully. The people in the places he had tried to settle down in previously, had harassed him and caused him to move on. The wells that Isaac had dug, were stopped up and made unusable for water by neighboring people because they were jealous of Isaac and didn’t want him around. In his latest move, God appeared to him and reassured Isaac that He would be with him, so he was not to be afraid. Not only would God protect Isaac but God promised to bless him and reaffirmed the covenant blessing that He had made with Abraham. God would increase the number of his descendants. God’s appearance to Isaac caused him to build an altar and worship God there and also to confidently tell his servants to dig a new well in that place.

Meanwhile, Abimelek had come to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his personal adviser and Phicol the commander of his forces. Isaac asked them, “Why have you come to me, since you were hostile to me and sent me away? ”

They answered, “We saw clearly that the LORD was with you; so we said, ‘There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’—between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you that you will do us no harm, just as we did not harm you but always treated you well and sent you away peacefully. And now you are blessed by the LORD.”

Isaac then made a feast for them, and they ate and drank. Early the next morning the men swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they went away peacefully. (Genesis 26:26-31)

Abimelek and his military commander came from Gerar to meet with Isaac. Isaac had been sent away from Gerar by Abimelek because Isaac had lied to him by presenting his wife as though she was his sister. But now, in an act of contrition, Abimelek came to see him. When Isaac questioned why they had come to see him, they made their purpose and their motivation clear. They had seen that God was with Isaac and blessing him, so they wanted to negotiate a treaty with him. Abimelek and his military commander had forced Isaac to leave Gerar, but now they wanted to make peace to ensure that Isaac would not cause any harm to come to them. Why? Not because they feared Isaac, but because they recognized they were no match for God’s power to protect Isaac and deal with anyone who came against him. Isaac prepared a feast for them, they swore an oath the next day and he sent them away peacefully.

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. They said, “We’ve found water!” He called it Shibah, and to this day the name of the town has been Beersheba. (Genesis 26:32-33)

That same day, Isaac’s servants came to him with good news…. they had found water in the well they had dug. God had blessed Isaac and given him assurance that this was the place where he was supposed to be.

When God puts His hand on you, no one can stand in your way to thwart His purpose in your life. Whether it’s the promotion he wants you to have, or the enemy that has to stop attacking you, or the way He made for you when others closed doors in your face. Your haters will have to come to you and become your congratulators in the face of God’s anointing in your life. Isaac was sent away by Abimelek and his powerful army. He was harassed by the people in the land around him. But Isaac didn’t try to fight in his own power or stay in the place that God had not ordained for him. He looked to God for His plan and His timing. And when God affirmed His blessings and His protection on Isaac, everything changed. No more harassment. Powerful men came to Isaac seeking his favor. And God provided the water that Isaac needed in order to sustain his household and his livestock. Keep looking to God. Keep worshipping Him. Don’t lose your faith and try to make it in your own power. He has not forgotten about you, your blessing is on the way. And when He blesses you, the blessings that God has ordained in your life, no one can block….not even your haters!
